ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Tampa Bay Rays hit four home runs – including a three-run go-ahead blast from Steve Pearce in the sixth – and split a two-game series with the Los Angeles Dodgers with a 8-5 win on Wednesday night at Tropicana Field.
Pearce, who started the season in a platoon at first base, continues to make a case for a larger role, as does outfielder Brandon Guyer, who started the scoring with a solo home run in the first. The Rays (12-14) have scored five-plus runs in back-to-back games for the first time all season, while the Dodgers (14-14) gave up a season-high four home runs in the loss.
