Bakersfield College is bringing a fascinating speaker to town Wednesday in what’s being billed as the first annual Levan Lecture. Jared Diamond won the Pulitzer Prize for his engrossing 1997 book, “Guns, Germs, and Steel,” a study of the elements that helped cultures to flourish or decline over thousands of years.
Diamond, a professor of geography at UCLA, will speak on “The World Until Yesterday: What We Can Learn from Traditional Societies.”
